We believe mentoring the next generation of scientists is the key distinguishing feature of academia and a primary reason for choosing this path. Being successful in science is not a result of being uniquely talented or capable of greatness. Rather, it takes the right combination of curiosity, persistence, luck, and privilege to find and continue in this path, which we hope to pay forward by creating opportunities for individuals from all backgrounds seeking the chance to make scientific discoveries. 

Our lab's collective goal is the advancement of knowledge. The future of the scientific enterprise hinges upon our ability to cultivate curious and well-rounded scientists who uphold rigor and integrity within a system of flawed incentives. We strive to make the experience of doing science meaningful and worthwhile, as well as help all lab members identify paths that suit their individual personalities and scientific aspirations. We work to foster an environment where lab members feel empowered to explore their research interests, where everyone feels secure enough to admit failure, and where constructive feedback is welcomed. Finally, we encourage lab members to continuously reflect on their strengths and weaknesses and recognize the potential to both learn from and mentor their peers. The pinnacle of joy in science is found in shared passion and discovery, and we feel honored by the chance to shepherd others through a vital phase of their scientific journey.
